Supporting RISE

Hi folks!

This is a little blog post requesting your support for RISE.

What is RISE?

RISE is a very popular extension for the Jupyter Notebook. It lets you show your notebooks rendered as an executable Reveal.js-based slideshow.

We have been working on RISE for several years and we are looking into its future and evolution.

How you can help us (with money ;-)

You can always help us contributing to the project with your time (through code, documentation, testing, showing, using it) BUT we are currently looking for a continuous flow of money so we can spend time on a daily basis with RISE.

Basically, you have 2-3 ways to fund RISE support and development:

Abandoning the oquanta domain name

This is a very short but important post!

As you probably know, this blog can be found as a subdomain of oquanta.info.

Starting Jan 23rd, 2019, I will be abandoning that domain name because GoDaddy is asking me unreasonable prices for renewal... and, actually, I am not using that domain except for the blog itself.

As you probably know as well, for several years, this blog has been hosted in gh-pages, so I will just use the default and expected URL provided by Github: https://damianavila.github.io/blog

Please, make sure to bookmark/save/link the correct URL if you want to keep reading about some of my stuff ;-)

Have a great start of the week!

Some thoughts about the 2017 ACM Software System Award for Project Jupyter

I am very happy to inform you that Project Jupyter has been awarded the 2017 ACM Software System Award!

As part of the Jupyter Steering Council, I am one of the official recipients of the award, but I wanted to highlight that I am just one member of a large group of people (contributors and users) working together to push the Project Jupyter forward and beyond its limits.

Project Jupyter is an essential part of my life. It gave me the opportunity to work with amazing people, to learn a lot of new things, to help other people. Some years ago, I left academia for several reasons, but one of the most important ones was to find an opportunity to make a substantial impact on people’s lives. I wanted to be involved in something that could empower people to do amazing things. And I certainly believe that Project Jupyter filled that space and allowed me to achieve that goal more than I could imagine.
